OBJECTS OF AFFECTION (DURING THE COVID-19): JOIN IT!

Objects are never neutral: symbolic of a period, affect, desire, malaise or memory, they are central to networks of relationships that help us understand reality
and ourselves within it.

Now let's imagine a historian who would like to talk about life during the Covid-19, in Italy as well as elsewhere in the world, through images of objects that have become symbolic of this period for each of us by arranging them into an exhibition.
What objects, beyond sanitary devices (such as masks, gloves and others), could become part of this exhibition, and why?

Mirabilia, a small group of thoughtful, committed people from different fields, launches the project Objects of affection (during the COVID-19) virtual exhibition (free of charge, freely accessible) which will feature images of objects as well as accompanying narratives explaining the choice of the particular object. The constent of the exhibition will be created by those who want to contribute to this common effort to convey, as well as to reconstruct, the visual representation of this period collective feeling.

Taking part:
Choose an object that for you is symbolic of this period. It might be an object you began to use since the emergency began, or one you have become particularly fond of during the lockdown, or something you consider representative of the situation: it can be any object of your choice, except the medical disposals (masks, gloves and other).
Take a good quality photo of the object (the resolution needed should be no lower than 800x600 pixels), which would be representative of its shape. aim for good light and a sharp focus. We are accepting formats such as JPG, GIF, PNG, TIFF, please refrain from using others, such as .pdf.
Download and fill in the participation form (including the release of rights), in which you will be asked to indicate some personal data (such as name and surname, age, city, country, occupation), as well as the name or nickname that you want us to use for your exhibition entry, a very brief description of the object and, moreover, the reasons for your choice: why this particular object and what it means to you.
Send the photos, along with the participation form, before May, 18th, 2020 to culturaemirabilia@gmail.com

We kindly thank you in advance for your participation to this project aimed at collecting material for this virtual exhibition. Your contribution will help us understand better how we are dealing with the present and we are feeling during this period, and to share these insights and feelings thereof with the audience of the exhibition.
